Celebrating
70 Years
October
19th 2009 is
the Seventieth Anniversary
of the arrival of
the first resident to Rainer School. We families owe a lot to the staff, past and present, who have contributed so much
of their lives, to making Rainier School
and it’s programs such a great place for the severely and profoundly mentally
and physically handicapped who have, and will, live there. It’s not been easy. Think also of
the thousands of families over all these years, they’ve helped when they took
in and nurtured their loved ones and made their lives better.
To
all staff past and present we say
:Thank You Very Much for what you do now, and, those staff retired, for what you did.
Thanks
also to all those families and friends of Rainier School who
raised the funds, such as, first to start Rainier School. Then to fund the swimming pool. And the
Chapel. And support and fund two
winning legal challenges to lawsuits aimed at closing Rainier School. And who keep on supporting and fighting for
Rainer School. (don’t rest.. it’s not over.)
VROOM! VROOM !! Motocross Park proposal on ex Rainier School
land east of campus: On
July 28th Ted DeVol, Enumclaw businessman, and operator
of several motocross parks statewide,
presented the Buckley City Council with
a proposal to lease 80 acres in the field east of Rainier School
that’s been declared surplus, from DSHS, for a motocross facility. It’s in the general area of the open field seen from the
road. This property is not in the City. Pierce County controls the zoning. It’s now
designated agriculture and forest. The City has interests, as do the
surrounding neighbors. Also there are two wells in the general area that are standby wells for part of the water
system for Buckley and Rainier School. !
Passings
Carol Henry, long time member of and contributor to Friends of Rainier passed
on recently. For many years with husband Gene, Carol was very active in the
2025/2035 Parent Club. We pray Carol is with God this day, and peace and
comfort for Gene and family.
Recent Passing’s on Campus
Jeff
Wyatt
who lived on Haddon House. His presence will be missed..Bill Sexton who lived
on Orcas House. And Fred Moe who lived on 2010B. Fred’s family writes:
Freddy enjoyed listening to Johnny Cash records, going on Rainier School
outings, and spending time with his family & friends. He will be remembered
for his joyful disposition and keen sense of humor. He was dearly loved and
will be greatly missed by his families at home and at Rainier School. May all above rest in peace and be with God
this day.
